The 10 Biggest Health Care Lies Moms Ought to Know!

What prompted me to write this article was a conversation I had with a mother about what health is and what it is not. This lead me to looking at what the 10 biggest health care lies are that people are told and have brought into without question. I also feel as a result of the conversation that it is time to stop calling mainstream health “health” because there’s not one thing within mainstream health that is based on health! Personally I have not used the medical system for well over 23 years. I birthed all my children at home, last was a breech birth, have never given nor do I offer medications to my children, do not vaccinate, have no family medical doctor, do not take medications myself and as such have no medicine cupboard at home. So… where does that place me and I imagine you?

What part of ‘mainstream health’ do you and I belong too?

The short answer is none! The truth is the health system that is currently seen to be mainstream does not espouse a health message… you have to be ‘sick’ to enter it. It’s a ‘system’ based on a narrow, rigid, ignorant and profitable understanding of the body and its supposed incapability’s. It’s practiced by those who profit and is strongly defended from anyone (individual with a powerful voice) or anything (organisation) coming close to toppling it in some way. The lies told at the top filter down without question.

What are the lies that people are told?

Lie #1 Drugs will ‘give you health’

Oh my, this is incongruent in and of itself isn’t it? Drugs do not make you healthy despite the clever advertising; PR pushes and engineered marketing messages. Pharmaceuticals do not prevent disease. Health is expressed by choice NOT chance. You are not lucky to have good health you created it, you didn’t “get” it from somewhere. Expressing health is the result of you choosing to do so not because a drug gave it to you. When you decide to take your health into your hands your life changes; you become empowered to make the decisions for yourself and your children. Health is expressed through your nerve system, the master communicating system of the body. A nerve system with clear communication can better heal itself.

Lie #2 Only medical doctors are the experts in health

I prefer to say they are specialists in ‘sickness and disease’. You must be sick to enter the system. Within a medical program there is very little (if any at all) education on wellness and prevention or nutrition let alone time spent on the nerve system – the master communicating system of the body – and its role in health. Expecting a medical person to navigate health with you is like asking the car mechanic to service your computer! They are just not well versed in it. There are however health professionals that have spent time at University or Colleges to learn about health, the human body and its expression. Chiropractors are health professionals who have spent years and years studying the nerve system from a health perspective rather than a diseased perspective. Understanding your relationship with your nerve system will assist you with placing your health back in your hands!

Lie #3 To prevent we need to screen

This is a subtle and yet powerful lie, they will screen you for ‘x’ whilst perpetuating the lie that they are preventing at worst and solving at best for example breast cancer. Odd. Millions of dollars are donated every day, week, month and year and has been for decades. And yet they are no closer to solving the cancer puzzle. Why? Doesn’t that make you think what kind of research is being done? Screening isn’t preventing these diseases because that would be saving your life. There is no money in that. In fact, virtually all the popular screening practices are done to promote diseases. Raise the veil and lift the illusion that these are in place to protect you, they aren’t. Prevention is about you taking action, reading, educating yourself on your body, lifestyle and food and your nerve systems relationship to ALL that! Remember in any area of your life where you feel disempowered somebody (individual or organisation) will overpower you.

Lie #4 Health insurance will keep you healthy

People who have health insurance have more done to them. Period. There is less protection when you have health insurance and more so when people have private health insurance. It perpetuates the subtle mechanistic motto of ‘let’s keep you sick’. The only health insurance you have is to educate yourself on your body, the nerve systems role in your health expression, understand how toxins in your environment and food contribute to diminished health, acknowledge that what you think about you bring about and get moving! I choose to be healthy, by choice NOT BY chance. A contract with a health insurance company will NOT give you health nor give you life… only YOU can make the change to express health differently and choose to live a different life!

Lie #5 Vaccines make you healthy

The lie here is a simple one – your body is incapable of creating immunity! The marketing and the fear mongering around this simple and yet profound lie has emerged as one of the greatest falsehoods in western culture. The under current is this… in order for you to be guarded against ‘diseases carried by others’ which is a false statement in and of itself (see Lie #9) you need something from the outside to protect you. Their answer is vaccinations. There are three ways to look at immunity – 1) as vaccinating parent 2) as an anti-vaccination parent 3) a parent who is pro-health. I personally have chosen the latter. If you would like assistance with switching how you look at health and vaccines go to Vital Moms and read the vaccination report! It will be an eye opener.

Lie #6 Bad luck

Bad luck and chance play a big role in mainstream health and thus how health is educated to people. The mainstream health care system wants you to believe that on that day you simply had bad luck. As such the only way to get good luck back into your life is by their pre-determined and “proven” interventions! Warning: once you enter you virtually have no role to play in your health or healing. The disappearance of your health on that day happened because of bad luck and chance. Your health becomes managed by their drugs, their screening, their surgeries and their interventions. Look out.

Lie #7 Disease is the result of bad genes

See lie # 6 for the response to this one well. The lie states that disease is spontaneous and will strike at anytime, without warning; it will just happen. Scientists take apart the genes one by one to perpetuate this lie. People are now being told that it is not your fault … it’s your genes! Bad genes equals … not your fault equals … drug for that. A classic example is the gene that has more recently been found for obesity. Some researchers estimate as many as 80 per cent – have inherited genes that predispose them to storing fat. Have you noticed that more and more people are being ‘classified’ as obese? The bench mark has been moved to create a problem (genes) of which the drug companies swoon in to solve (new drug) because seriously apparently it’s not your fault. This is a fabricated lie. Lifestyle choices create these challenges. If you chose freakish foods – processed and laced with colourings, preservatives, flavours and additives than expect to change your chemical makeup resulting in a toxic nerve system, an inability to express health and increased adipose tissue! You are the only one to change with way you express your health.

Let’s face it… disease always has a cause and the cause usually has to do with 1) a nerve system that has road blocks in its communication with every cell, organ and tissue in the body, 2) nutritional deficiencies, 3) exposure to toxic chemicals and 4) sedentary lifestyle. Clear the road blocks, eat well and get moving so you express health differently!

Lie #8 Go to hospital they really are places of health and healing

Here is my response to this BIG LIE … if you go in get out FAST! These are far from nurturing places of health and healing. With iatrogenic death (death by the system itself) the leading cause of death in many western world countries my suggestion is to think twice about entering. Surgeries that are mistakenly performed also contribute to the demise of hospital health and healing. Emergency areas/rooms serve a purpose for horrendous accidents and injuries however for everyday challenges as well as acute, chronic and degenerative health challenges I certainly advocate and choose to look elsewhere. Health challenges can be changed by choosing to educate yourself about your nerve system; your internal super highway of communication between your brain and body (cells, tissues, organs and systems) and back again. Your nerve system is the master communicating system for the whole of your body. Choose to become educated on the role it plays, make an appointment with a chiropractor. Chiropractors are the go-to people who specifically work with the nerve system and your innate capabilities to express health. When you do I KNOW you’ll choose to do health differently.

Lie #9) Mainstream health is ‘up to date’

It is certainly not modern! When there’s a mechanistic system that is perpetuating for example the germ theory, which is really OUT DATED, than there’s a problem. The lie enlarges so much so that people begin to believe it. Looking down the barrel of a microscope with specifically activated ‘belief filters’ will enable a person/company to find the results they’re looking for. People have moved on from the world being flat to being round! Isn’t it time to lay to rest that germs are bad, are everywhere and need to be gotten rid of? However, to do so would mean shutting down industries from the cleaning businesses to the product businesses to the manufacturers. You can see how this could have a devastating effect on economic contribution. So … it’s easier to perpetuate the lie that makes money than it is too speak the truth. This is NOT advanced and modern medicine.

Lie #10 Give us money to find those ‘cures’

Here is the answer to the lie that a cure needs to be found. Answer: there never will be one. There is no vested interest from any company in the mechanistic approach to health to finding a cure. However, there is a vested interest in shaping the advertising and conversations that have you believe there is a cure around the corner therefore tugging on your heart strings which then sees you donate. Lie, lie and lie again! This lie has been repeated for example since the 1960s, when cancer scientists claimed they were only a few years away from curing cancer. Today, four decades later, can you think of a single major disease that western medicine has cured? There aren’t any! Why … because the only person that can cure you is you. Incurable means curable from within. People make money from sick people, uneducated people, people who don’t want to take responsibility for their health. In doing so people get tugged into the profitable vortex where lifelong addictions to medications are pushed to manage the sickness that happened to them on that unlucky day.

Time to wake up …

I’m sure you are well aware that there are more than 10 lies being told to the public. Depending on your level of knowledge will depend on which lies you buy into – some, a few, all or none. The ones I share here are the ones I feel are most relevant to your health decisions right now. By knowing about these lies you begin taking charge of your own and your child’s health! Staying healthy isn’t as difficult as you’ve been told, might think or lead to believe. All the insurance, screenings and drugs in the world ain’t going to keep you healthy. In fact the opposite is true. ‘Buying in’ perpetuates your sickness path.

When you take responsibility for your health, when you acknowledge that EVERYTHING that has taken place in your life was because of the choices you made at that time you begin to express a different attitude to health. As your attitude changes you engage with new people, different people, whose ideas about health are different to yours. You begin to set a different course for yourself and your children. Your old thoughts about health and where it comes from begin to dissolve. New thoughts are established that embrace your nerve system, your physical, chemical and your emotional body. You acknowledge that life is not happening to you that you indeed are the creator of everything that has taken place and everything that will take place going forward. Your world awakens to what is possible, your relationships transform and you begin to be IN LIFE!

The path to expressing health and staying healthy requires you to make informed, intelligent decisions about your lifestyle. Being aware of the symbiotic relationship between your physical, chemical and emotional self and your nerve system will be a most beneficial place to start. Once you acknowledge this relationship you’ll find you’re no longer a victim to a system that doesn’t serve health.

The Lethal Routine

Whilst I was a student, many decades ago know, I had a wonderful teacher who encouraged me to do my routine differently…for a day. He encouraged me to do this in an effort to not only use both sides of my body but in an attempt to stop taking what I do for granted and appreciate the body I have chosen to live in. So I set about doing a few things he suggested of which I quickly come to realize how automatic my life was, striving to be the most efficient I could be quick to get things down without thought or pause.

And seeing the Vital Moms ezine is about “Firsts” I decided to create a challenge were the “lethal switched off routine” of our daily life could be broken, if only momentarily. You can make this a family thing to do if you have kids and if you have grandchildren make it a game and step aside to see what happens. If you own a business and have team members incorporate this into your work place culture for a month of fun!

 Here goes…

I have listed for you 38 things we automatically do and I’ve either asked you to do the opposite or make a note of what you do. Only choose 30 or 31 of the things because the challenge only goes for a month. They are all things you possibly take for granted, don’t think about any more and or unconsciously strive to complete in the most efficient way as you rush out the door to get somewhere. Simply select a thing to do each day for 30 or 31 days and do it differently. Choose only one a day because the point is for you to attune to your body and note what you take for granted. For example perhaps it’s a “routine” that now takes longer than expected or eating is now slower (not a bad thing!), tying the shoelaces is more challenging or drying yourself after a shower now takes on a whole new meaning! Not only will this create immense frustration within you as you attempt to go about your daily “routine” less efficiently however it too will be fun and stimulating.

It’s time to appreciate and celebrate how weird, wonderful and wacky life is when we stop and attempt to do our daily “lethal routine” differently!

Here are 38 items for you to work through in no particular order. This is by no means an exhaustive list. If you have some wonderful creative additions to this list please share them on our Vital Moms FaceBook page to let us all know.

Above all enjoy and have FUN with it!

Choose one “thing” to do differently per day for 30 days:

  1. Brush your teeth with the other hand
  2. Uncross your legs when sitting
  3. Wash the dishes starting from the other side
  4. Fall asleep facing the other way
  5. Note how you automatically dry yourself a certain way after a shower and do it a different way!
  6. Brush your hair with the other hand
  7. Switch your mouse around to the other side (now that will challenge a few I am sure)
  8. Scroll your phone or mobile device (e.g. iPad) with the other hand and finger
  9. Sleep on the other side of the bed
  10. Change seats at the dinner table (if you are really routine orientated!)
  11. Sweep the floor with broom in the other hand
  12. Empty the dishwasher from the other side
  13. Set the table as a left hander would eat or if left handed as a right hander would eat
  14. Eat as a left hander if you are right handed and vice versa
  15. Write a shopping list with your right hand if you are left handed and left hand if you are right handed
  16. Pluck your eyebrows with your other hand
  17. Put your organic make up on (if you wear it) with the other hand
  18. Rule a line with the other hand going the other way
  19. Blow dry your hair with the other hand/arm
  20. Drive the kids to school via a different route
  21. This is for the kids… skate board with the opposite foot forward
  22. Hammer a nail with the other hand
  23. Unlock your front door with the other hand
  24. Kick the ball with the other foot
  25. Throw a ball with the other arm
  26. Hug on the opposite side (left side to left side and heart to heart!)
  27. Lather with soap with the opposite hand
  28. Step with a different leg first when putting clothes on in the morning
  29. Mix contents in a bowl with the opposite hand
  30. Stir a pot with the opposite hand
  31. Eat chocolate with the opposite hand
  32. Paint a picture with the opposite hand
  33. Use calculator with the opposite hand
  34. This is another one for the kids… surf with the opposite foot forward
  35. Do your belt up the opposite way
  36. Use a spoon in other hand
  37. Drink out of a glass with other hand
  38. Pour from a jug with other hand

Birth Dystocia What You Need To Know!

When you’re pregnant you get a whole lot of unsolicited information pouring your way, right? When I was towards the end of my pregnancy with my eldest I found myself listening to a lady in the aisle of our local Hy-Vee supermarket in the USA, rambling on to me about pain, discomfort and drugs. Her last comment to me as she paid for her groceries was when it all slows down honey… take the drugs! I thought to myself why is it people feel compelled to share their birth story, good or bad, with you when you are pregnant? I decided that day in the Hy-Vee checkout aisle to surround myself with white light, nod politely and say to myself ‘that’s your journey not mine’. As I see it, everybody’s journey is different – experiences, birth option, thought processes, trauma, fear, structural integrity and nerve system disturbance amongst many other factors.

It’s the nerve disturbance and fear I want to focus on in this article. I have found over the decades of listening to the stories and my own experience that there is a common thread regardless of the place of birth, type of birth, country of birth, or birth team attendees and it’s this…

The Birth Process Slows Down At Some Point Albeit Long or Brief

The logical question to ask then is why does it slow down and what do you do when it does? Will you do what the Hy-Vee lady suggested?

This process of slowing down is called Dystocia which means a change in movement. There are three ways the ‘slowing down’ occurs;

             1) Physical

            2) Emotional or

            3) Iatrogenic

Depending on your philosophical alignment and understanding of the birth process this could be a good thing or a bad thing. My intention is to outline them for you from the Vital Moms vitalistic health perspective.

    1)      Dystocia – Physical

Why might the birth process slow down due to physical dystocia? Our nerve system is the master communicating system of the body. Think of it like a super highway carrying vital messages from your brain to your vital organs and cells – one of which is the uterus – and back again. When a system creates nerve disturbance with itself the messages become muffled, irritated or at worst not heard.

It may help to imagine this in the following way …

Picture yourself organizing a hot air balloon ride. You arrive in the early morning at the field where the balloon is being readied. You notice the wicker basket is tied by rope to the ground and the balloon is tied by cords to the wicker basket. The crew fill the balloon with air and then blast the burner flame, heating the air and expanding the balloon.

The balloon envelope looks gorgeous in its symmetry against the morning sky.

Now, if one or more of those ropes holding the wicker basket to the ground was twisted or pulled on only slightly more than another imagine for a moment how the balloon envelope would appear — perhaps lopsided, asymmetrical and unable to move or rise efficiently?

Now imagine the wicker basket as your uterus, and coming off your uterus are ligaments. When ligaments are not “sitting” the way they’re intended to, you may experience similar challenges to the hot air balloon— your uterus may not be positioned symmetrically, rotated to one side.

Just as the efficiency of the balloon would be hindered and flight would be almost impossible, if your uterus is out of symmetry, out of alignment, it may hinder the growth and the birth process.

Nerve disturbance can affect both you and your child’s ability to birth. A constrained or inhibited uterus may mean your baby is able to move less freely, decreasing the tumbling and turning and creating a change in movement…a slowing down.

     2)      Dystocia – Emotional

Why might the birth process slow down due to emotional dystocia? Well that is a good question! When we look at the emotional aspect of birth there is a full and colourful array of emotions expressed by individuals prior to the birth process and during the birth itself. These emotions which are carried via the nerve system can be unsung, quite and percolating in the woman’s mind naked to the untrained eye or the emotions can loud and in your face. Either way the emotions of the birth mother are important to the progress of birth.

Fear is one of the biggest emotions confronting birth. An article published June 27, 2012 in BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology found a link between fear of childbirth and longer duration of labour. The article also mentioned… generally, longer labour duration increases the risk of instrumental vaginal delivery and emergency caesarean section. The study found women with a fear of childbirth more often delivered by instrumental vaginal delivery (17.0% versus 10.6%) or emergency caesarean delivery (10.9% versus 6.8%) as compared to women without fear of childbirth.

Let me use myself as an example…

I created emotional Dystocia for a brief period during the birth of our second child. It wasn’t because of the fear of birthing but the fear of do I really want to be a parent again, oh my gosh how I am going to cope with two, what if it’s another boy, what if it’s a girl! I knew it was my emotions holding me back from not opening up to the birth process… contractions slowed down, I felt tired and went to rest on my bed. I slept for 45 minutes and upon waking asked my husband to call a fellow chiropractor of ours to come over and adjustment me using an emotional technique we are trained in. Upon his arrival and after my adjustment I took myself immediately to the land of transition, began dry reaching (which by the way opens up the cervix!) and two pushes later I birthed another baby… a boy!

It is important you birth where you feel most comfortable and have a supportive team you can trust too. I also made sure I was regularly adjusted – weekly in fact. I wanted to make sure my hot air balloon was well balanced and open to receive the communication required to grow and birth a baby.

If you’re about to birth or planning a pregnancy sometime soon then perhaps you may like to ask yourself these questions:

How am I feeling about being a parent? (first time or second time)

How can I create the birth experience I want rather than what others tell me to have?

How does my partner feel about my birth choice?

Does my partner believe I can birth naturally?

Do I believe I can birth naturally?

Am I empowered to say “Yes!” to those I want at my birth and “No!” to those I don’t want there?

What’s my birth plan?

           3)      Dystocia – Iatrogenic

Right now you might be saying to yourself “iatro….what?” If you have been a reader of Vital Moms for some time then you would have heard me say this word. I predicted at a recent live presentation that this would be a household word within 5 years. Iatrogenic is the system itself. What is the system I am referring to? It’s the medicalisation of birth and the system the majority of people use for their “health” care. You would have read under point 2 emotional Dystocia the article referencing fear of birth and how when a mother is in this state intervention more often than not is rolled out because everything slows down.

Once there is a thought or a seed planted to the mother that the birth has “slowed down” it generally does. I want you to imagine for a moment, as I digress a little here, that you decide you want to get fit and off you trot to the local the gymnasium to build some strength. You find a fabulous full length mirror, some dumbbells and begin “pumping the iron” performing bicep curl after bicep curl until your biceps get a little tired and tight, cannot contract and you decide to take a rest. So rest you do wondering off to work on your legs instead. Within 10 minutes you are good for another round of bicep curls.

Hold this picture of your biceps in your mind and now think of your uterus. A very strong organ, contracting for hours and at some point in time it says “you know what… I need to rest. And rest it does. It all slows down. This is called THE RESTING PHASE, not recognized by many people, but it is part of the birth process. When the contractions slow down we immediately assume something is wrong “you’re not progressing!” Well hang on perhaps you just need a rest, take a breather, some time out, lay down, sleep if need be and then you can go again. However most people are not thinking this way and I feel that’s when we get into the “iatrogenic dystocia” of birth where our body is looked at like a machine that is meant to keep going and going and when it stops we don’t look to support it in this “resting phase” we look for ways to “reboot it”. The rebooting usually comes in the form of intervention: break membranes, Syntocin/Pitocin to artificially move labour along, epidural/gas for pain relief, mother now birthing on her back, episiotomy because baby maybe now stuck, instrumental vaginal “delivery” to suck or pull the baby out, instrument fails and a C- section is the end result. All perhaps because this “resting phase” was not respected or acknowledged and the medicalisation of birth took over.

The process of birth is a highly organised system of events that takes place in order for the mother and baby to birth…together. We have seen here three ways in which the process of birth can be slowed down known as Dystocia. I encourage all Vital Moms readers if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy or know of a friend who is pregnant to find a chiropractor, receive regular adjustments for neurological integrity, work with the emotions of pregnancy and birth, respect and trust the “resting phase” of the birth process and find a team you can trust; people willing to work with you and your birth choices.
